Kita sedang menyelidiki buku pertama dari Alkitab, yaitu buku Kejadian.
Pada hari-hari penciptaan lainnya, ketika Allah menciptakan tanaman dan ikan, burung, dan binatang darat, Alkitab mengatakan bahwa Ia membuat masing-masing benda itu menurut jenisnya … misalnya … semua pohon sama seperti pohon, tetapi ada berbagai jenis – jeruk, mangga, palem, cemara, dll.
Kejadian 1: 26-27.
Ayat-ayat ini tidak mengatakan bahwa kita dibuat untuk memiliki gambar luar yang sama dengan Tuhan – atau kita semua sama. Dan kita tahu dari ayat-ayat lain, seperti Yohanes 4:24 bahwa Tuhan itu roh – Dia tidak memiliki tubuh. Jadi, apa arti ayat-ayat tersebut?
Ya, ayat-ayat tersebut berarti bahwa Allah membuat manusia menjadi seperti Dia, untuk terlihat seperti Dia, untuk melakukan hal-hal yang Dia lakukan, memikirkan hal-hal yang Dia pikirkan, mengasihi orang seperti Dia mengasihi orang, dan hidup dengan cara Dia hidup.
Yang terpenting, Tuhan membuat kita menjadi sempurna sama seperti Dia sempurna. Dan pada awalnya, manusia adalah cerminan atau citra Tuhan yang sangat baik, tetapi kemudian terjadi sesuatu yang membuat orang tidak dapat dengan sempurna mencerminkan Tuhan.
Orang berdosa.
Adam dan Hawa menggunakan otak dan kemampuannya untuk membuat pilihan yang Allah telah berikan, dan mereka memilih untuk tidak menaati Allah.
Dan Roma 3: 10-12 memberi tahu kita bahwa setiap orang sejak Adam dan Hawa telah membuat pilihan yang sama – pilihan untuk berpaling dari Allah dan memilih dosa.

Dan, Alkitab memberi tahu kita bahwa ketika kita percaya kepada Yesus dan meminta Dia untuk bertanggung jawab atas hidup kita dan menjalani hidup kita sehingga kita mengikuti Dia, maka Dia akan mengubah hati kita sehingga kita akan menjadi lebih seperti Dia dan menjadi gambar atau cerminan dari Dia.
Itulah kabar baiknya. Tuhan menjadikan kita sebagai cerminan-Nya. Dia ingin kita mencerminkan Dia kepada dunia, sehingga ketika orang melihat kita, mereka melihat Dia. Dan, Dialah yang mengubah hati kita sehingga kita bisa menjadi reflektor sejati-Nya. Sama sekali tidak ada yang dapat kita lakukan sendiri untuk menjadi gambar atau refleksi Allah yang benar dan sempurna, tetapi ketika Yesus datang ke bumi, menjalani kehidupan yang sempurna, mati dan bangkit kembali tiga hari kemudian Dia menyediakan satu-satunya cara bagi kita untuk diampuni dari segala dosa kita dan agar Tuhan mengubah umat-Nya menjadi refleksiNya yang sempurna seperti sejak semula.
