[AkhirZaman.org] Alkitab pertama kali dicetak secara massal pada pertengahan abad ke-15, ketika Johann Gutenberg menemukan bentuk baru dari jenis huruf yang dapat digerakkan yang akhirnya mengarah pada produksi massal buku.

Alkitab Gutenberg diterbitkan di Mainz, Jerman, sekitar tahun 1454 M, dan itu adalah buku besar pertama yang dicetak di Barat. Sekitar 180 eksemplar dibuat, dan sebagian besar dari 48 eksemplar masih tersisa.

Namun, Alkitab disimpan dan diduplikasi selama berabad-abad sebelum Gutenberg menerbitkannya. Kitab-kitab Perjanjian Lama sudah ada sebelum Imanuel lahir, dan baik IA maupun para murid-Nya mereka menyebutnya “Hukum Taurat dan kitab para nabi berlaku” (Lukas 16:16).

Orang-orang Yahudi menjaga Kitab Suci Perjanjian Lama dengan sangat hati-hati sehingga jika seorang juru tulis membuat satu kesalahan saat membuat salinannya, dia harus menghancurkan seluruh naskah!

Kata Yunani untuk Alkitab (biblia) berarti “buku,” yang secara akurat menggambarkan kumpulan 66 teks suci.

Tuhan menggerakkan hati orang-orang, yang diilhami oleh Roh Kudus, untuk menuliskan dalam bahasa manusia kebenaran yang terkesan pada mereka untuk tujuan menyebarkan pesan keselamatan Tuhan kepada orang lain.

Hari ini, Alkitab adalah buku terlaris sepanjang masa. Sekitar 100 juta eksemplar dicetak setiap tahun. Ini adalah buku yang benar-benar mengubah dunia kita.
