Saya nggak sabar pemilu segera berakhir…
[AkhirZaman.org] Ini mungkin sebuah pernyataan yang sering diulang-ulang setiap pemilu diadakan. Bagaimana tidak? Dengan semua perdebatan yang muncul di berbagai media, demonstrasi, poster, billboard, website, iklan di TV dan radio, semuanya di munculkan sepanjang musim kampanye untuk mempengaruhi suara Anda disetiap kesempatan dengan menghabiskan dana ratusan hingga ribuan dolar.
Orang-orang kristen diberbagai daerah menanggapi proses politik dengan berbagai cara, mulai dari meluangkan waktu dalam berpartisipasi dalam debat politik dan menjalankan cara-cara yang lain. Namun haruskah orang kristen betul-betul terlibat dalam dunia politik?
Alkitab katakan bahwa “kewargaan kita adalah di dalam sorga” (Filipi 3:20), namun kita hidup di dunia ini dan dengan demikian kita memiliki tanggung jawab menjadi wakil Kristus kepada komunitas di sekitar kita. Yesus dengan bijak mengajarkan kepada kita bahwa, “”Berikanlah kepada Kaisar apa yang wajib kamu berikan kepada Kaisar dan kepada Allah apa yang wajib kamu berikan kepada Allah” (Mat 22:21). Itu berarti bahwa sementara kita dapat memberikan dukungan terhadap segala upaya dalam rangka kehidupan sosial yang lebih baik dan berdiri untuk keadilan sosial melalui suara kita, di saat yang sama, kita harus tetap selalu berpegang teguh pada keyakinan agama kita.
Dalam setiap kasus, seorang kristen yang bijaksana akan melakukan pilihannya dengan baik dengan berdoa, mempelajari setiap kandidat yang ada dan memilih yang sesuai. Menjadi seperti Yesus berarti menghindari metode dan sarana politik yang bertentangan dengan integritas, tanggung jawab dan kehormatan. Dan menghormati Tuhan berarti tidak mengizinkan adanya perdebatan dan perselisihan politik sehingga tidak menjadi penghalang dalam memenuhi panggilan Tuhan untuk meyebarkan kabar kesukaan.
Ingat, Alkitab menyatakan bahwa akan tiba saatnya ketika kebebasan akan dihapus. Wahyu 13 menggambarkan kekuatan yang akan timbul dari bumi dan akhirnya bekerjasama dengan kekuatan binatang untuk menegakkan hukum dan mengubah dunia seperti yang kita kenal saat ini diatas kepalanya. Banyak pelajar Alkitab melihat Amerika Serikat dalam nubuatan ini. Sementara cemoohan dan ejekan mungkin bermunculan, tanda-tanda perubahan segera terjadi di sekitar kita. Perhatikan berbagai gejolak dunia kita saat ini, keruntuhan kekuasaan pemerintah, tingkat bencana alam yang sudah memecahkan rekor, kejahatan semakin merajalela, dan polarisasi politik baik di Amerika Serikat maupun di luar negeri.
Dari semua orang di dunia, orang-orang Kristen harus mejadi yang terdepan dalam upaya membawa kebaikan dalam komunitas mereka. Dalam cara Yesus, hidup kita harus menunjukkan kerinduan kita untuk kesejahteraan seluruh umat manusia. Doa-doa kita harus dinaikkan bagi para pemimpin pemerintahan kita. Dan orang-orang disekitar kita akan melihat kita dan berkata, “Lingkungan masyarakat kita menjadi tempat yang lebih baik karena adanya teman-teman orang Kristen.”
