[AkhirZaman.org] Sedikitnya 21 orang tewas dalam sebuah serangan Taliban di sebuah Universitas di Pakistan barat laut, Rabu (20/1/2016) pagi waktu setempat. Sejumlah saksi mengatakan, dua ledakan besar terjadi saat pasukan keamanan bergegas ke lokasi yang diselimuti asap tebal untuk menghentikan pertumpahan berdarah itu.
Jumlah korban tewas meningkat cepat setelah orang-orang bersenjata itu menyerbu Universitas Bacha Khan di Charsadda, sekitar 50 kilometer dari kota Peshawar. Peshawar merupakan ibu kota Provinsi Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Daerah itu sering menjadi sasaran serangan militan. Tahun 2014, Taliban membantai 130 siswa sebuah sekolah di Peshawar.
Polisi, tentara, dan pasukan khusus menyerbu universitas tersebut dari darat dan udara dalam upaya untuk menghentikan serangan. Sementara itu, tayangan televisi menunjukkan para mahasiswi berlari untuk menyelamatkan nyawa mereka.
“Jumlah korban tewas dalam serangan teroris itu telah meningkat menjadi 21 orang,” kata kepala polisi daerah itu, Saeed Wazir, kepada kantor berita AFP. Dia mengatakan, operasi untuk menghentikan serangan itu telah berakhir. Pasukan keamanan kini sedang membersihkan daerah itu. Ia mengatakan, sebagian besar korban adalah mahasiswa ditembak mati di sebuah asrama khusus pria.
“Lebih dari 30 orang lain, termasuk mahasiswa, staf dan penjaga keamanan terluka,” katanya. Juru bicara militer Pakistan, Mayor Jenderal Asim Bajwa, mengatakan di Twitter bahwa empat penyerang tewas.
“Perkembangan terbaru, penembak jitu telah menewaskan dua atau lebih teroris di atap (gedung). Total teroris yang tewas sejauh ini empat orang. Semua bangunan (dan) atap bangunan telah diambil alih Angkatan Darat. Operasi terus berlanjut,” tulisnya sebelumnya.
Tidak segera jelas apakah empat pelaku yang tewas itu termasuk dalam jumlah 21 orang tewas yang diberikan polisi Wazir. Taliban Pakistan mengaku bertanggung jawab atas serangan tersebut.
“Empat penyerang bunuh diri kami melakukan serangan di Universitas Bacha Khan hari ini,” kata Umar Mansur, komandan kelompok militan Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), kepada AFP.
Ia berbicara melalui sambungan telepon dari sebuah lokasi yang dirahasiakan. Ia mengatakan bahwa serangan itu merupakan balasan untuk serangan militer terhadap kaum militan di wilayah kesukuan.
