Rusia juga memutuskan untuk balik mengusir 23 diplomat Inggris sebagai balas dendam terhadap langkah yang dilakukan Inggris.
“Semua yang dilakukan Inggris tidak dapat diterima, seperti yang anda pahami dalam praktik diplomatik, akan ada pengusiran, akan ada jawaban dari pihak Rusia,” ujar Yakovenko, dilansir dari Guardian, Kamis (15/3/2018).
Saling usir diplomat yang dilakukan oleh kedua negara berkaitan dengan serangan racun mematikan terhadap mantan mata-mata Rusia di Inggris, Sergei Skripal dan putrinya Yulia Skripal yang ditemukan kritis pada sebuah bangku di Salisbury, Inggris.
Pemerintah Rusia diberikan waktu 24 jam untuk memberikan jawaban mengapa senjata mematikan yang dikembangkan di Uni Soviet itu bisa masuk ke Inggris.
“Kami tidak berbicara bahasa ultimatum, kami tidak menggunakan bahasa itu dan tidak diizinkan untuk berbicara dalam bahasa itu,” kata Vasily Nebenzya, Dubes Rusia untuk PBB.
Rusia menolak memenuhi tenggat waktu yang diberikan Inggris. Hal ini mendorong Perdana Menteri May mengumumkan serangkaian tindakan sebagai pesan bagi Rusia, salah satunya adalah pengusiran 23 Diplomat Rusia di Inggris.
PM May menambahkan, bungkamnya Rusia atas pertanyaan yang di ajukan Inggris adalah bentuk dari penghinaan dan pembangkangan.
Inggris menuding Rusia melakukan percobaan pembunuhan terhadap mantan agennya tersebut.
